Here we are, here we fight! As some of you know Manuel and I have followed a dream that we as artists share, by opening our own art gallery together. After signing our lease, Manuel had a near death experience where he resided in the hospital for over a month. Manuel went to the emergency room for ruptured sepsis on his tooth. The doctors informed me that his colon had also ruptured amongst other complications. At this time, I was informed that they were unsure if he was going to live. The next 48-hours were crucial as I sat with a knot in my stomach, anger in my heart and confusion in my brain.

As I remained home with our five children, I thought about closing the gallery. When Manuel miraculously woke from his medical induced coma, his first request was "DO NOT CLOSE THE GALLERY, KEEP IT GOING MY LOVE." I was unsure how to make this happen, but I abided by his wishes and in between work, the children, maintaining our home and visiting him on my lunch breaks, we remained open.

Minutes before Manuel was released from the hospital, visitors became restricted from the hospital. The hospital sent us home with instructions on how to inject antibiotics from a PICC line that ran to his heart. Manuel was also released from the hospital, with his right arm, his painting arm paralyzed. He was alive and home, nothing else mattered. Slowly we worked on our gallery together. Soon after, we, amongst thousands of other small business', boarded up our gallery and shut down, due to the Coronavirus emergency because we are considered a so-called “non-essential” brick and mortar firm, and we remained closed until the social distancing and quarantine guidelines have loosened. We remained closed without a clear message on when we might be allowed to operate again, this was disheartening.

Slowly as we removed the boards from the gallery and opened our doors, (taking our Covid-19 precautions) violent riots broke out here in Albuquerque and we again boarded up the gallery. Protesting for change is necessary, violence and destruction is not. Recently we have once again removed the boards.... During this time of uncertainty, how does an already delicate business like a small art gallery stay afloat during the COVID-19 quarantine and all of the other unexpected trials and tribulations that have brought us to our knees. We dream big!!

Our goal for Wolf Martinez gallery is to support and help local artists, to create events that bring us as a community together, to appreciate art and all of its beauty, to help our surrounding small business' to prosper and succeed! Remember to support your local restaurants, galleries, retail stores, jewelry stores, all local business' as we struggle through these difficult times together.

At this time, Wolf Martinez Gallery will be open Wed-Fri and weekends. You can also contact us to make an appointment.
