Our Lady of Fatima
Acrylic on wood with aluminum detail, 15.5" x 8.5"
Created in 2012
Sealed with handmade piñon sap
Artist: Carolyn Wolf
In this reverent and traditional-style acrylic painting, Our Lady of Fatima is depicted hovering gracefully above a tree in the humble Portuguese village of Fátima, where she is said to have appeared in 1917. Radiating light and dressed in flowing white garments, the Virgin Mary—Our Lady of the Rosary—gazes gently downward as three young shepherd children kneel in awe before her. The figures of Lucia dos Santos and her cousins Francisco and Jacinta Marto are rendered with sincerity and devotion, their postures filled with innocence, faith, and wonder. On either side of the children stand two sheep: a gentle lamb on one side and a nurturing ewe on the other, symbolic of purity, sacrifice, and maternal care.
This sacred piece is further adorned with hand-tooled aluminum embellishments in the style of a traditional retablo. A central aluminum element floats above Our Lady’s head, extending her halo outward in luminous reverence. Each of the four corners is graced with a small square aluminum design, framing the work with understated elegance and devotion.
Painted in 2012 on wood and sealed with handmade piñon sap, this artwork has remained in the artist’s personal collection and has never before been available to the public—until now. A personal expression of faith and a tribute to one of the most beloved Marian apparitions, Our Lady of Fatima invites quiet reflection, spiritual connection, and reverence.
